I'm trying to build my wardrobe to match where I am in my life right now. I want to develop a look that's a little more trendy & put together than my typical jeans/cardigan combos. Do you have any advice on where to start? How can I avoid buying the same things over and over but still get things that I am comfortable in?
I know the feeling! It seems as if you are wearing the same thing over and over and it gets boring! First things first, find your basics! It’s okay to have pieces you wear over if they are you foundational pieces to your wardrobe. For example, jeans! Find a good pair of jeans that’s meet your quality and fit expectations. Then go for a neutral blouse. White is my favorite. But any color works as long as it is simple enough to go with several things. Skip the cardigan; go for a denim jacket or silkier, long line blazer. Start there. And once you are set on your basics start adding pieces that stand out and are trendy. Do not add anyone pieces that look like your basics. So instead of buying a basic white blouse, get a white blouse with flower embroidery on the sleeves. Or instead of simple sandals go for a fancy pair of leather orange slides with a bow on top. There are levels to this, so build the change slowly and only after you have a set of basics. Otherwise you will end up with a closet full of pieces you feel like you can only wear once. The most important piece of advice I can give is to take chances and do not be afraid. In order to leave the box you’ve created for yourself you have to try new things and go to new stores. Be bold!
If you need any more help with the fit and function of pieces let me know! I would love to help you pick out an outfit! And if anyone has any advice for Olivia, share in the comments below!
